The following is offered by the WIA Workforce Investment Act (WIA)ALABAMA INTERTRIBAL COUNCIL'S WIA program is a federally funded program through the Department of Labor, which allows American Indians, Alaskan Natives and Hawaiian Natives to take advantage of social and economic benefits through continuing education and work experience. Congress passed the WIA (Workforce Investment Act ) law in 1998. It became fully effective on July 1st of 2000. WIA authorizes federal funding for a wide variety of services designed to help youth and adults get and keep productive jobs. Section 166 of WIA provides special funding to Indians and Native Americans. This program replaces the one formerly under Section 401 of the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA). The differences between the two programs will not effect the service to you, so WIA will be able to continue to serve you in the future as in the past. SERVICES PROVIDED BY WIA Our agency can provide you with the following services: *Adult Vocational Training - This program assist an individual with the educational training for technical skills required to perform a specific job. *Classroom training (CRT) - This program assists individuals who are continuing their education in a collegiate institution. *Work Experience - This program is an introduction to the work force and often provides an opportunity for individuals with no or little work experience. *Support Services - Some of which are transportation, meals, child care, books, tools, and special clothing.
