Chestley Franklin Payne Sr.
As this article is written, Frank is in the Huntsville Hospital. He has had a stroke and cannot speak right now. You might not recognize Frank without his black hat, but you know him when you see him. He walks quietly and carries a big stick. At each event before the end of the day there is someone he finds deserving to have the gift he has made, always a work of art in it’s most natural form. Anytime we are outside, Frank will find someone to share his knowledge of the plants. He knows the trees and the herbs and will share with anyone who will listen. Many times the listeners are our young folks and you will see them in the distance crouching close to the ground by Frank. They are listening with all their hearts. Frank seldom misses a fellowship gathering, but he missed the one in May. People, young and old, walked up and ask where Mr. Payne was. They had a gift for him. This last month, a youngster had a staff for Frank and was anxious to give it to him. Frank gives precious items that you won’t find in any store and the receiver is always so overwhelmed, they always want to return a special handmade gift to him upon their next meeting. This is medicine in it’s purest form. Straight from the heart, Frank is a teacher to all who know him. Please keep Frank and his family in your prayers at this time.
